Second session practicing proper technique, today Joel helped me =] Now, I don’t typically shoot a lot of males so I realize my posing of him is a little generic…however, the main focus was slowing down and getting the shot just right…which I accomplished! I noticed that today I shot with much more ease than yesterday. Hopefully it will come with more and more ease as time goes by. I really want to nail this aspect of my work before I begin the more creative work again, so that they will truly be masterful.

So I decided a few weeks ago I would like to strengthen my techniques using studio lighting. Because I’m typically so nervous I tend to get trigger happy and focus on composition and posing. So…learning to pace myself…placing the lights EXACTLY where they should be…taking a deep breath as I meter my exposure…fine-tuning my focus (I really hate AF)…and really just taking advantage of Manual mode in general…will make my images much better.
Today, Daniel sat in for me for a bit to help me prepare for the sessions I have lined up the next few weeks. He’s really just amazing =] Here is one of my favorites from tonight:

after the first sitting, we made another backdrop and incorporated a reflector. Notice the jawline ;]
Things to take into consideration into my session tomorrow? Make better use of my reflector. I’d like to eliminate that shadow under the jaw. And also, perhaps bungee my flash to point directly at the background, aimed right behind his head, to create more definition between it and model and a sort of natural, halo-ish vignette.
So…more tomorrow!
